SAG is a new brand that CAS is starting to recommend & sell. This brand has more going for it than just the product (although, this is all about the product). I have seen many documentaries and movies over the years that show the hard work that the sherpas provide to help westerners achieve the high summits of the Himalaya. We all know they work hard for so little.
SAG is quoted on their website:
"In order to honor their heroic feats, Sherpa Adventure Gear is setting aside a portion of proceeds from the sale of all products to benefit the health, education, and welfare of underprivileged Sherpa children."
We endorse this philosophy. More information on their website here:
http://sherpaadventuregear.com/So we decided to check out their line of apparel and have thus endorsed them. You'll see plenty of reviews of their complete line over the next few months as we test their apparel in the winter months of the Cascades and see how well they work.
I was the first one, and wore the Baans Tech Quarter-Zip on my recent ski tour up the Muir Snowfield on a cold and blistery day in November. As my general outfit consists of a base layer and a shell, I found it to be just enough warmth and breathability for such an endeavor. I have always been a big fan of zip tees, and this one has a very large tag on the zipper which is especially handy when wearing large gloves. Even though I had to take the gloves of to perform another function, it was still something to remember next time.
It's made with 35% Bamboo charcoal?
Does that sound comfortable? Well bamboo absorbs and extracts sweat super fast, which is a good thing in the winter to keep the chill factor down, especially when you open up the pit zips on your shell.
The base layer performed well, and I actually wore it on the way home (which is more than 2 hours) and did not offend my guest or myself. Wish I could say that for our boots......
More to come as we test this piece in future installments.
